Bryton Inc., which has maintained the number one market share for GPS cycling computers in Taiwan for three consecutive years, held a press conference today to announce the formation of Team Bryton Icefield. This new venture is a collaboration with Icefield (Canadian Natural Glacial Water) and premium brands including Factor, DT SWISS, JE22, POC, Pirelli, and 720 armour. The team features four elite cyclists—Shao Hsuan Lu, Chih Hao Wu, Shih Hsin Hsiao, and Yu Ming Su—and will officially begin competing in domestic elite road races this week.
Since its inception, Bryton has been dedicated to cultivating professional cyclists and promoting the sport globally, sponsoring over 20 teams ranging from local squads to UCI WorldTeams. In recent years, Bryton has also provided technical support for the Tour de Taiwan broadcasts. Observing that international races have been cancelled, postponed, or restricted due to the pandemic, CEO Samuel Wang recognized that many Taiwanese overseas athletes have returned home. To ensure these riders have a platform to maintain their competitive edge, Bryton not only officially co-titled its long-term partner, Team Bryton Merida, but also stepped up as a partner for various domestic races. The specific plan to assemble this new team began in October last year.
In addition to Bryton, the team is co-titled by Icefield. At Bryton’s invitation, Icefield has become the first drinking water brand in Taiwan to heavily invest in cycling, providing athletes with pure glacial water sourced from a permanently protected area on Vancouver Island, Canada, for their daily training and competitions.
Regarding equipment, Bryton invited like-minded manufacturers to provide the highest quality hardware, ensuring athletes can perform at their peak. This year, Team Bryton Icefield will be equipped with the versatile Factor Ostro VAM framesets, paired with DT SWISS ARC 1100 DICUT DB and PRC 1100 DICUT MON CHASSERAL wheelsets, and PIRELLI PZERO Velo TLR tubeless tires. For apparel and gear, the riders will wear JE22 jerseys (the brand owned by four-time KOM champion John Ebsen), POC Ventral Air Spin helmets, and 720 armour eyewear. Samuel Wang, acting as team principal, expressed his gratitude to the partners for supporting Taiwanese athletes and building a stage for the sport, especially given the tight preparation schedule and global supply chain shortages in the cycling industry.
Team Bryton Icefield will make its competitive debut this Saturday at the Rotary Cup Yangmingshan KOM. The team plans to participate in 15 to 20 elite road races throughout the season, including the Ride Away League, 96 League, and Tour de Hualien-Taitung. By introducing this new team, Bryton hopes to revitalize Taiwanese cycling and encourages more industry peers and enthusiasts to get involved.
